1904 | C.D. Nayagam established the Thayammal School at his village, Kulasekarapatnam, Thoothukudi District, Tamilnadu. In the early 40's he established a school for Oriental Languages (mainly Tamil) and a Training School for women teachers and named it Valliammaiyar Teachers Training Institute. |
1931 | The schools in Chennai were started in a rented building in 1931 and he acquired the land (about 2.5 acres) on Venkatnarayana Road, Theagarayanagar to put up a H-shaped building in 1931 |
1944 |
C.D.Nayagam died and by his Will, left all his self-acquired property worth more than a lakh of rupees at that time, including the lands and buildings of the schools, to be used for educational purposes. As per the terms of his Will, the Educational Agency named "Kalvi Pani" was formed and registered under the Indian Companies Act (1918) in 1948. Later, C.D.Nayagam's first son, C.Nellainayagam, Assistant Director of Statistics in the Directorate of Health Services, elevated the school into a High School. |
1969 | The girls were provided a separate school as Guntur Subbiah Pillai High School, named after the donor of the buildings |
1978 | Government reviewed its education policy and both schools were upgraded to Higher Secondary schools |
